After beginning her career as a beauty therapist in Mayfair, Shavata earned the reputation as an expert eyebrow threader. Since then, she has gained a cult following among A-listers and beauty professionals, with past clients including Adele, Victoria Beckham, Kelly Brook and Kate Hudson. Shavata’s successful business, The Brow Studio, can be found in 11 concessions and standalone studios in the UK and Ireland. She has also developed a specialist line of products, including the award-winning Defining Pencil and the Lash Fabricator, so you can maintain Shavata’s special touch between appointments. To celebrate Shavata’s 20-year anniversary in the industry, we sat down with the beauty guru to get some advice on all things brows. Read on to discover her insider tips and tricks...
WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT IN THE 20 YEARS OF YOUR BUSINESS? Always trust your gut, because it never lies to you.
WHAT ARE SOME OF THE KEY EYEBROW TRENDS WE CAN EXPECT TO SEE MORE OF THIS YEAR? Perfectly-groomed brows are always a staple trend. Lamination gives you the best of both worlds, as you’re able to enhance the thickness of your brows without making them too full. You can also comb them into a perfect shape, as well as adding definition.
AND THE KEY EYELASH TRENDS? Lash lifts are becoming more popular. I think the effortless, low-maintenance aspect of the treatment makes it a winner, particularly in the summer – who wouldn’t want to wake up every day on holiday with beautifully curled, long lashes?
HOW CAN WE DETERMINE WHAT BROW SHAPE OR STYLE IS RIGHT FOR US? This is where our consultation is key and what sets us apart from other brands. During your consultation, your therapist will talk you through your desired look. We will go through pre and aftercare for the treatment and we also take lifestyle and age into consideration, so we can find a treatment that suits you best. For example, if you’re a low-maintenance person who doesn’t have time to keep on top of regular lash appointments, then a lash lift would be better than semi-permanent lashes.
WHAT ARE SOME OF THE HERO SHAVATA SINGH TREATMENTS AND WHY ARE THEY SO POPULAR? Threading is the most effective way to remove hairs. This technique has grown over the years and it really is an artistic skill. We use the finest thread to achieve precision with every movement. Your brows have the power to combat the ageing process, so at Shavata we tactically place the arch of your brow to achieve the most youthful-looking appearance.
CAN YOU GIVE SOME TOP TIPS FOR KEEPING YOUR EYEBROWS IN GOOD CONDITION? Maintenance is key. My advice is to have regular visits with us every four to six weeks. If you need to tidy your eyebrows in between your appointments, you can gently tweeze the hair, but remember that even removing one hair can alter the shape of your brow.
THREADING, WAXING OR STYLING – HOW DO WE KNOW WHICH IS RIGHT FOR US? At Shavata, we use a combination. We might wax some of the hairs, then use threading to achieve the perfect finish – it all depends on your desired look. Simply combing your brows and treating them with our castor oil can make your brows stay fresh in between visits.
HOW DO YOU STYLE YOUR OWN EYEBROWS? Every morning, I use the Shavata Singh Lash Brush, Brow Tamer and Defining Pencil. In the evenings, I apply our castor oil, which helps to promote hair growth. I trust our therapists implicitly with my brows, and if I need a little touch-up, I use our Slanted Tweezers to remove stray hairs.
