Q&A Ayo Fashina

When did your love for fashion start?

AF: I started in fashion as a sales associate and quickly found my talent for styling in the luxury arena. While I interned as a stylist in D.C. and learned from talented designers, stylists, and consultants. It was my cousins who taught me to break boundaries and create unique looks that stand out. The more passionate I become about fashion, the more extravagant and opulent my designs become.

Describe your style in three words.

AF: Bold, chic, and fierce. 

Do you have a favorite designer?

AF: Undoubtedly, Schiaparelli reigns supreme as my preferred designer. Their fearlessness in exploring unconventional details and silhouettes, as well as their remarkable use of gold jewelry as art, is nothing short of phenomenal. Without a doubt, their designs never fail to leave me speechless.

What type of looks do you love to create?

AF: I love the freedom of fashion—mixing, and matching without adhering to rules. My most unique looks usually include unexpected accessories that make a statement. During the day, I like to pair a tailored blazer with a chunky, gold necklace, jeans, and sunglasses. For the evening, I like to wear something glamorous and luxurious, like beaded dresses with offbeat silhouettes and heels that make an impact.

What is your most memorable fashion experience?  

AF: I attended a wedding in Portugal where the dress code was black and white. Taking inspiration from Schiaparelli, I decided to have a dress custom-made; it combined Portuguese embroidery with an equestrian aesthetic. The final product was unconventional and audacious. I was delighted to honor the couple's request while avoiding anything mundane.
