The Secret to Mermaidcore Dressing
With Disney’s The Little Mermaid taking theaters by storm, there has been a huge rise in the popularity of “Mermaidcore”, aka outfits inspired by the wonderful watery world of mermaids! While it might sound like a lot, incorporating the Mermaidcore trend into your existing wardrobe isn’t that hard, so here are my top tips on how to dress Mermaidcore that’ll have you swimming for joy this summer.
Tip #1 - Sparkle is Everything
Ever notice how things just seem to shimmer when they’re wet? That’s why sparkle is essential to acing the Mermaidcore trend! A great way to add sparkle to your existing wardrobe is through your accessories; specifically, handbags. I love The Sequin Micro Tote Bag in Iridescent by Marc Jacobs and the Sequin-Embellished Shoulder Bag in Green by Valentino Garavani. Both of these are wardrobe staples that you’ll definitely get a lot of use out of, plus they’re very on-trend with the Mermaidcore aesthetic!
Fish scales and mermaid tails are almost always iridescent, showing off a rainbow of colors! Wearing something iridescent automatically gives mermaid vibes, and there are a ton of great options for adding this element to your wardrobe. I’m personally a huge fan of Laquan Smith’s iridescent pieces, especially the Iridescent Bustier Top in Iridescent Violet. Poster Girl also has the cutest SSENSE Exclusive Multicolor Iridescent Winona Skirt that’s perfect for adding Mermaidcore vibes to your summer music festival ‘fits. If you’re looking for a more subtle iridescent touch (and some fish scale-inspired texture!), I love the Ruby Iridescent Leather Pumps in Silver from Balmain. The best part is, they’re also currently on sale.
Tip #3 - Accent with Shells and Pearls
Mermaids wouldn’t be the same without some seashells or pearls, so your Mermaidcore outfit shouldn’t go without them, either! Incorporate subtle seashell touches and pretty pearl accents with jewelry. I love Ulla Johnson’s Spiral Shell Earrings in Gold and Oscar De La Renta’s Shell Chandelier Earrings in Gold. For pearls, you can’t go wrong with Sequin Jewelry’s Simulated Pearl Initial Necklace and the Orb Pearl Earrings in Emerald Multi by Oscar De La Renta.
I hope these Mermaidcore how-to tips help you find your inner Ariel this summer! If you need more Mermaidcore outfit inspiration, check out my list on ModeSens to shop all my Mermaidcore-inspired picks below.
