Transition from Summer to Fall in A Buzzy (Fuzzy-Wuzzy) Way

If you looked at your phone for more than five minutes this past weekend, your doom-scrolling might have been interrupted by a certain bear that everyone had an opinion on.

Angela, a resident of the Hangzhou Zoo in China, raised eyebrows and drew murmurs when a photo of her went viral. At first glance, it looked like the only notable feature of this picture was that she was standing on her hind legs, but her fur further perplexed many. With seemingly skin-tight...well…skin that sagged around her hips, many thought she was a human in sheep’s—I mean, bear’s—clothing. Though we can’t officially comment on this current conspiracy (we’re not zoologists) we can indeed tell you how to embody this buzzy, fuzzy, wuzzy trend and make your transition from Pre-Fall to just plain old Fall bear-y smooth.

Beginning with her color story, the rich suedes and caramels and siennas, splashed with whites and beiges, are a perfect palette that captures the brightness of summer and combines it with the soon-to-be-changing foliage of fall. Slinky dresses, subdued prints, and sparkling accessories transition beautifully while giving a nod to the Internet sensation of the moment.

To get more literal in our quest to homage to our meme, faux furs, leathers, and nap fabrics can give us a little fuzzy that won’t make us fussy in the heat. Max Mara’s “Teddy Bear” coat is giving more fabric softener mascot than the memeified bear, but the Pereira Belted Gathered coat from LUKHANYO MDINGI, with its circular tie-dye print is on theme.

Speaking of tie-dye, Angela’s most distinctive trait (aside from possibly being a human trying to infiltrate bear-topia?) may be the uneven rings of white fur, a trademark of the sun bear species Angela is a part of. Tie-dye, batik, shi-bori and other hand-dye-inspired prints, all in rich, muted browns and taupes, approximate the signature patch well with their diffused edges and natural grace. You can also try your paw—we mean, hand—at widening the spectrum by interpreting this look with checks, organic shapes, or other large, repetitive patterns.

Most of all, though, since Angela sparked suspicion of the internet because she looked like a dad in a bear costume, we thought the best way to channel this ursa-energy as we fall out of a sultry summer and into a chill autumn would be curating our picks for #1 Dad jeans. Because this season, don’t you want that slouchy perfection that will leave everyone wondering: what is that bear wearing?
