A Montreal-native and one of the youngest designers to win an LVMH prize, Vejas Kruszewski launched his eponymous label at 19 years old with merely a high school diploma and a natural hand for the craft. Entirely self-taught, the young designer built his collection of gender-fluid streetwear out of a small studio in Toronto after spending years immersing himself in Japanese lifestyle magazines, deconstructing Celine and Miu Miu sales items, and working at a local cut-and-sew manufacturer. Vejas' menswear collection consists of handcrafted ready-to-wear separates using only high-quality fabrics sourced from Italian mills. Oversized jackets, distressed bombers, and raw denim jeans offer workwear-inspired luxury with distinct details such as contrast stitching and asymmetric closures, while interlocking sweatshirts and interlaced t-shirts paired with kimono-style shirts and linen dresses challenge normative gender roles. Handbags and backpacks carry an architectural appeal with their minimalist aesthetic, while shearling chokers add a luxe punk attitude to the collection.
