In 1949, Balmain created its very first perfume, titled Jolie Madame. It was wildly popular among the fashion set, so much so that Pierre Balmain named his Autumn/Winter 1952 collection after it. The presentation built upon the Maison's New French style, with the term Jolie Madame soon becoming a way of referring to the label's quintessentially Parisian aesthetic - and now this wicker top-handle bag.
