Drawing on Yuri Himuro's textile project 'Snip Snap' — where a jacquard design transpires once its woven threads are snipped to reveal a double structure — the 'Cultivate' series of rugs for CC-Tapis translates the same designer's novel jacquard weaving technique into an Indian flatweave. The result is a rug that is entirely customisable, with each owner able to embrace the gesture of cutting to reveal a colourful flatweave beneath the carpet's first layer of threads. Woven from natural-hued Himalayan wool and cotton, the rug and its counterparts are the product of a development where 'cutting becomes a process of creation instead of destruction', according to Himuro.
