Empire Windrush London Art Print. Celebrating a generation that helped built Britain. As an immigrant myself, Brixton was where I felt the most at home. I used to spend days wandering about the Village, and the adjoining Windrush Square. It's home to the Black Cultural Archives, the only national heritage centre dedicated to collecting, preserving, and celebrating the histories of African and Caribbean people in Britain. The ship Empire Windrush arrived at the Port of Tilbury on 21 June 1948 and its passengers disembarked a day later. The ship carried 492 Caribbean migrants, many of them veterans of the Second World War. Windrush Day is celebrated on June 22nd every year, to celebrate this historic event. Sold unframed. Printed on premium 350gsm lightly textured thick Matte Paper. Designed in SE London. Printed professionally in London. Posted in sturdy cardboard tubes.
