Pre-owned "midway 2" Chairs & Table Set, 1914 In Gray

A rare early Cassina production of the iconic Model 603 "Midway” dining set, originally designed by Frank Lloyd Wright for the Midway Gardens in Chicago, 1914. This exceptional ensemble includes four chairs and one matching round table, forming a complete and highly decorative architectural group. Originally conceived by Wright as part of the visionary Midway Gardens project, the design reflects his unmistakable language: geometric rigor, lightness of structure, repeated triangular motifs and a strong dialogue between furniture and architecture. Produced by Cassina as part of its historic re-edition program, this set is a particularly charming early example, finished in a rare light blue painted metal structure. The color gives the ensemble an unexpected freshness, softening the strict geometry of the design while enhancing its graphic presence. The thin iron rod construction creates a beautiful visual rhythm: circles, diagonals and triangles intersect continuously, giving the set an almost drawn quality, as if Wright’s original architectural sketch had been translated directly into three-dimensional form. The chairs are especially striking. Each backrest is defined by a large circular frame crossed by a central vertical element decorated with repeated triangular motifs, one of the most recognizable details of the Midway design. The legs and lower structure are built with fine diagonal rods, creating a light but highly architectural support system. The seats are padded and upholstered in a refined grey suede-like fabric, offering a soft contrast to the painted metal frame. Each chair is marked underneath the seat with the Cassina stamp impressed directly into the metal frame. The original Cassina labels are also still present, further confirming the authenticity and early production of the set.
