product description

Superb scarce "Knickerbocker Etched" by Gorham circa 1870 sterling silver flatware set - 101 pieces. This rare multi-motif service features different all-over floral detailing, in relief. This service is presented in a massive vintage chest and includes: 8 dinner size knives, 9 1/2"-10" (some blade imperfections, as expected with age) 12 dinner size forks with daffodils, 7 3/4" 12 luncheon knives, 8 3/4" 12 luncheon/dessert forks with morning glories, 7" 12 teaspoons with poppies, 5 7/8" 12 dinner spoons with irises, 8 5/8" 5 place soup spoons, 7 1/4" 6 cocktail forks, 6 1/8" 6 fish forks with acid etched fish above the tines, 7" 8 coffee spoons, gold-washed, lily of the valley, 5" 1 pie server all-sterling, acid etched flowers on blade, 8 1/4" 1 fish serving fork with fish above tines, 9" 1 sugar tong, 5" 1 yoked asparagus tong (no pin), 9 3/4" 1 roast carving set, 2-piece, 14" and 10 1/2" (wear to steel blade/tines, as expected with age) Includes massive bonus vintage (re-lined) storage chest with 3 drawers. The chest is in excellent condition and weighs over 50 lbs. This set is in excellent vintage condition (some imperfections on the knife blades, as expected with age), with varying monograms. This set will be lightly polished and sealed in individual plastic sleeves prior to shipping. This is a rare opportunity! Knickerbocker Etched was introduced by Gorham in the year 1870. The design is Japanese-style multi-motif flora that is acid etched, then the fine detail in the leaves and flowers are hand engraved. The design wraps from the front to the back of the pieces. This pattern is reminiscent of Tiffany's acid etched Lap-Over Edge. There are very few multi-motif patterns that are acid etched (only the two patterns, to the best of our knowledge). Included is a copy of Bill Hood's wonderful 7-page article on Knickerbocker Etched from "Silver Studies 2012" (London, England). 100% satisfaction guaranteed!
