With industry experience as a design director at Vera Wang and Maiyet, Parsons graduate Catherine Holstein debuted her womenswear line Khaite for Fall/Winter 2015. A study in contrasts-- between masculine and feminine, severity and softness, fluidity and structure-- the label advances a refreshingly polished take on American sportswear staples. Elegantly pared-down shapes and a muted color palette highlight Holstein’s expertise in luxuriously textural fabrics. Inspired by tried-and-true vintage styles, the label’s stand-out Vanessa jean pairs a feminine high-rise with a modern straight-leg fit. Mid-length skirts and flared trousers are crafted in structural cotton twill, while long satin dresses, cotton poplin shirts, and crepe blouses are elevated by unexpected details.
