With the 'Charred Vase' series, Origin Made celebrates the declining Portuguese art of 'barro preto', defined by the presence of a non-homogeneous texture of black, grey and earth tones amongst ceramics. These emerge following a process where clay items are buried and fired in an underground pit called a 'soenga' for a dark matte texture that tells the story of production through touch alone. Here, the process manifests in a family of vases designed by Gabriel Tan and handcrafted by João Lourenço, such as this conic vessel with its abstract aesthetics that together introduce an elevated contemporary accent to spaces and is suited to single stems.
