American artist Robert Rauschenberg's Sub Total is a vivid, layered lithograph from the historic Stoned Moon series, created in collaboration with NASA at the height of the Apollo space program. In this work, Rauschenberg fuses documentary imagery with gestural mark-making to form a dynamic visual field that oscillates between precision and improvisation. Fragmented photographs of spacecraft architecture and mission diagrams are interrupted by broad swaths of color and hand-drawn textures that destabilize the otherwise mechanical imagery.
