In 1941, the Maharaja of Patiala commissioned S. T. Dupont, a Parisian company best known for making luggage, to make 100 gold lighters. This request was revolutionary for the company and helped make the brand what it is today - a label most widely known for its lighters. Many of its Maharaja-themed offerings have paid tribute to its early beginnings, but nothing has highlighted it quite as much as this striking model. Enlivened with diamonds, mother-of-pearl, silk yarn and red lacquer, the Maharani - a term which refers to the female equivalent of the great rulers of India - is a true talking piece.
