Tilt the pot until the oil stops releasing smoke on all sides. The pot should have a matte finish and dark hue. Rinse with hot water, wipe dry, and heat on the stove over high heat to evaporate remaining water. Hand wash only; NOT dishwasher safe. To hand wash, scrub the inside and outside of pot with a scouring pad and hot, soapy water. Rinse completely and dry with a towel. Place on stovetop over medium-high heat to evaporate any leftover water. Apply a thin coat of vegetable oil to protect against rusting.
